Keighley’s Old Bear Brewery is raising a toast to itself after two of its beers picked up awards within a week of each other.
The brewery’s Duke of Bronte Ale took second spot at the Keighley Beer Festival, while its Yorkshire Day Ale won a silver medal in the local brews classification of the Yorkshire Taste Awards.
The Keighley Beer Festival award was voted for by attendees at the three-day event.
YDA – the official beer of Yorkshire Day – came equal second during a ceremony in York’s Guildhall, where judges described it as “highly commended”.
The judges had to filter down all the initial entries to 10, before conducting a tasting session to reach the final three.
The Yorkshire Taste Awards have been going for three years, and this time around were held in York as part of the city’s Festival of Food & Drink.
They look to showcase Yorkshire produce and to celebrate and applaud the people who make their living from it, as well as providing a platform for those craft food and drink producers who do not have the time , or budget to promote what they make.
